The Mountains are Calling was an incredibly fun and rewarding piece for me to complete, and it was one of those that just “clicked” from beginning to end.

This painting is part of an ongoing series of what I currently call “figures in trees”. Flip this painting upside down and this tree becomes personified into this figure that is physically facing the mountains in the background, but has turned briefly as if to say, “The mountains are calling. Gotta jet!”…The rest is open to interpretation, but I enjoy entertaining the theme/idea that untouched nature is the epidemy of beauty and life, and must be respected and preserved at all costs. Think of the tree as a direct representational figure standing for forest conservation.
