I am so pleasantly surprised with the way that this painting turned out. When choosing it as a composition, I was drawn to the warm, earthy colors that were reflecting off of it compared to its surroundings, as well as the fact that there are two growing together. The mushroom is growing out of a decaying stump, along with various types of moss and grass. Mushrooms are an integral part of the environment. At first glance they may seem boring and useless (at least that’s what I thought/assumed until recent years), but they really are neat. Look them up! I also loved the slow and subtle development of both the log and background. I encourage you to zoom in and check out the rich texture.
