I have always been intrigued by what I have learned as reindeer lichen…The structure reminds me of thick velcro. It’s everywhere, but I notice it the most when I’m on mountain tops…so peaceful and far away from all the noise. The lichen painted is not meant to be accurately detailed. I wanted to highlight the natural colors they (and other plants/mosses) were giving off while in shadow on a bright, sunny day back in 2023. The cliff face (known as Shining Rock), pine tree, bright blue sky, and mountains were pleasant to paint as well. :) This painting is covered in thick, sponge-like texture (excluding mountains, sky, and tree).
